In Response to Recent News Media
On August 19th I was made aware by the news media of a lawsuit filed against the Diocese of Pittsburgh and Holy Family Institute (HFI). The lawsuit alleges that two priests abused a resident living at HFI in the 1970’s. As of the date of this posting, a lawsuit has not been served on HFI.
For more than 100 years, Holy Family Institute has provided service dedicated to children and families in need. I am deeply saddened by these allegations and I want to assure all those supported by HFI that we take every precaution in our service to children and families. Staff and volunteers are thoroughly vetted through interviews and reference checks, must obtain state and FBI child abuse clearances and attend mandated child abuse reporter training before they are permitted to serve. HFI pledges full cooperation with any law enforcement review of this abuse report.
