Holy Family Youth Take Steelers Trip of a Lifetime!

Six youth in Holy Family’s residential program were treated to the trip of a lifetime when they attended the Steelers game inKansas City, Missouri on November 27! The youth, chaperoned by Sister Linda and Roy Sims, a youth counselor at Holy Family, made the nearly 900-mile trip on board a private jet, courtesy of Corporate Air. Each young received a Steelers jersey to wear to show their team spirit, as well as new slacks and shoes, from Allegheny County. After arriving by limousine at Arrowhead Stadium, the youth were given field passes so they could watch the Steelers warm up, and even got to meet Steelers’ owner Art Rooney II and former Steeler Tunch Ilkin. And what better way to wrap up the wonderful trip than with a hard-fought Steelers victory!

This trip was made possible through the generosity of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Corporate Air, and private donors.  Originally packaged as a trip to the Cincinnati Bengals game on November 13, the trip was placed on eBay as one of many auction items included in Holy Family’s annual fundraiser, the Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. Courage House Luncheon.

When the $7,500 winning bid turned out to be a sham, the Steelers and Corporate Air offered an alternative date for the game.  Deciding that it was too late to raise funds by auctioning the game, Sister Linda made some contacts and several generous donors stepped in and raised $10,000 to replace the lost $7,500 bid.  Because the Steelers donated the game tickets and Corporate Air provided the chartered jet service at no cost, Holy Family selected six youth in the residential program who were not able to return home for the Thanksgiving holiday to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Thanks to all who made this trip of a lifetime possible for these deserving youth, and for supporting all the children and families that Holy Family Institute serves!
