Founded in 1900, Holy Family Institute (HFI) is one of Pittsburgh’s largest social service agencies. HFI provides care, treatment and education services for abused and neglected children and families in need. Holy Family recognizes that each child matters and deserves the opportunity to succeed. Institute has internship opportunities in the following areas: Interns will be given an opportunity to provide services to families in the families’ homes. Services include counseling, parent education, advocacy (court attendance), case management, school advocacy and other services as needed. Offices are located in McKees Rocks, Swissvale and East Liberty. Marketing/Fundraising/Development:
Volunteer Program Support:
SNAP (Stop Now And Plan) Interns will be given an opportunity to learn the SNAP model of treatment (cognitive behavioral techniques) with boys ages 6-11. It is a group treatment program. Interns could also be given opportunities to provide individual befriending (mentoring) and assist with the sibling group.
Residential Care Interns within the residential milieu will have the opportunity to learn the Holy Family Living-Learning Model of care which focuses upon teaching youth ages 14 to 21 pro-social skills, job readiness, and independent living skills within a trauma sensitive environment. Interns will have the opportunity to work within the milieu along side youth counselors/job coaches, and clinical case managers.
Education The internships offered by Holy Family Learning will provide student teachers valuable experience in the special education field. Your experiences at Holy Family Learning will include practice in lesson planning, one-on-one student teaching, grading, observing, special education needs, education research, classroom management using positive behavior techniques, and Individual Education Plan development. You will work with a team of teachers and administrators to help you understand the necessary requirements to be successful in the classroom. We are committed to you in the development of these skills to help you and your future students. Students accepted into education placements with children will have to have all clearances submitted upon acceptance.
Support Hours of Recovery Ensure Sobriety S.H.O.R.E.S. Interns will be given an opportunity to provide drug and alcohol services to clients under the age of 24. Services include counseling, drug and alcohol education, training, case management, school advocacy, connecting to community resources and other services as needed. Services can include individual, family, or group counseling. Interns will be given the opportunity to develop treatment plans, psycho social evaluations, intake assessments and other necessary client file paperwork. We serve clients in Allegheny and the 7 surrounding counties, with the main office located in Emsworth.
Support Services · Maintenance · Human Resources · Finance · Internet Technology · Food Services · Nursing Holy Family Institute is looking for energetic interns who can work a flexible schedule, who enjoy the service industry and who are able to work at least a summer or a semester's length of time. The internship may be extended. We are willing to work with any level college student, enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate program. Majors which would best fit the internship include any of those listed above; however we are open to others who may be interested in other non-profit or service industries. The internship may be paid a stipend depending upon the budget of the program; however there are many opportunities to receive excellent practical experience.
